An Inclusive Learning Community, rooted in God
Nonington is a place of learning where all are cared for and supported. Nonington has high expectations of all, so they fulfil their God given aspirations within and outside our small school community. Following the example of Jesus, we trust each other, valuing everyone’s unique contribution.
One day children were brought to Jesus in the hope that he would lay hands on them and pray over them. The disciples shooed them off. But Jesus intervened: “Let the children alone, don’t prevent them from coming to me. God’s kingdom is made up of people like these.” After laying hands on them, he left.
Matthew 19 13-15 (The Message)
As Jesus taught the disciples, each child is at the centre of everything we do at school. We are an inclusive learning community rooted in God because we value the contribution every child makes to our school community and learning is the core purpose of our school. When Jesus said ‘Let the children alone, don’t prevent them from coming to me’ he showed the disciples the inclusive ethos our school follows. As an inclusive learning community, every person is valued, challenged and nurtured to be the best they can be. All are encouraged, inspired and provided with opportunities to develop and grow within and beyond the classroom.
By bringing the children to Jesus so that he would lay hands on and pray over them the parents demonstrated hope. We develop each member of the school community to fulfil their aspirations, by growing in hope and resilience. We provide a curriculum which enables our children to develop academically, morally, physically, socially, spiritually. We develop our partnerships with other schools and organisations to grow and support each other, creating a wider culture of hope.
By Jesus intervening when the disciples shooed the children off Jesus demonstrated friendship. We believe that the relationships which are built through our small school community are fundamental in the development of the school. Through the friendships established by our children, the relationships developed in the classroom and our partnerships within the school community and beyond we live out Jesus’ example of friendship.
By Jesus saying ‘Let the children alone, don’t prevent them from coming to me’ Jesus taught wisdom. We value the contribution of our children in all that we do. We listen to our children in order to support their development. Each child’s skills and talents are promoted so everyone plays their part in our school and makes a contribution to the wider community.
By Jesus saying ‘God’s kingdom is made up of people like these’ Jesus demonstrated a trust in everyone by sharing his Kingdom with all. We are an inclusive learning community which includes each member of our school community by thinking about their needs, feelings and aspirations. We recognise and celebrate the contribution each person makes. The whole school community places trust in children, teachers, staff, parents, governors and members of the school community to embrace the high expectations of our school.
By Jesus laying his hands on the children Jesus demonstrated peace. We support our pupils by providing them with opportunities to be peaceful, quiet and reflect. In our small school community we value the time when we are together to learn, celebrate and worship.
Our Vision is developed through the Christian values of Wisdom, Hope and Trust.
